Eye Care Technicians are allied health professionals and part of the vision care team. They work with the optometrist to assist patients with front office customer service and eyewear selection needs. The American Optometric Association offers a career ladder certification consisting of 4 levels of expertise and specialization to advance in this high-in-demand career field.

This course is the first step on your career ladder to become an Optician, Frame Stylist, or Paraoptometric Coding Specialist.

Prerequisites:• Must pass a literacy assessment test

• Attend a Free Orientation (check page 46 for dates)

• Minimum of 8th grade math skills

• Must wear scrubs at all times

Course Content:

• 45-hours instruction and skills lab plus 12 hours guest lectures by local optometrists covering Vision Health & Eyewear, Customer Service & Soft Skills, and Computer Applications & Social Media

• Concurrent minimum of 16- hour job shadowing at local optometrists and industry experts

• All successful completers are eligible for paid on-the-job training

Top 2 course completers will be offered paid summer work-experience in one of the largest optical labs in Northern California.
