Eye Care Technician Training Program

(Industry Certification – Paid On-The-Job Training Opportunities)

Eye Care Technicians are allied health professionals and part of the vision care team. They work with the optometrist to assist patients with front office customer service and eyewear selection needs. The American Optometric Association offers a career ladder certification consisting of 4 levels of expertise and specialization to advance in this high-in-demand career field.

This course is the first step on your career ladder to become an Optician, Frame Stylist, or Paraoptometric Coding Specialist.

Prerequisites:• Must pass a literacy assessment test

• Attend a Free Orientation (check page 46 for dates)

• Minimum of 8th grade math skills

• Must wear scrubs at all times

Course Content:

• 45-hours instruction and skills lab plus 12 hours guest lectures by local optometrists covering Vision Health & Eyewear, Customer Service & Soft Skills, and Computer Applications & Social Media

• Concurrent minimum of 16- hour job shadowing at local optometrists and industry experts

• All successful completers are eligible for paid on-the-job training

Top 2 course completers will be offered paid summer work-experience in one of the largest optical labs in Northern California.

Google Applied Digital Skills

This project and scenario-based curriculum has been developed by Google to teach students the digital skills they need to manage and operate a small business or office and to apply digital tools to manage every day tasks.

The course content fosters research-based decision-making and critical thinking skills which are adamant to succeeding today’s labor market. Students will learn to use the Google Apps to plan and promote events, plan and manage a budget, collaborate digitally in a team, manage projects, research information and evaluate the sources, and communicate effectively with others.

The course includes one session with a guest speaker from the Google team to explore strategies to find a new job using Google.

Prerequisite: Computer Literate

Medical Assistant Training Program

National Certification by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

The field of medical assisting is one of the most versatile allied health occupations in today’s healthcare environment and one of the fastest growing jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 23.5 % job growth rate from 2014-2024. Medical Assistants work in private and multi-provider clinics, Urgent Care Centers,Hospitals or Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH).

The Front Office scope of work includes scheduling appointments, start and maintain patient records, and insurance billing and coding. The Back Office includes preparing the exam room, vital signs, injections and blood draws, EKG, and other assistance with examinations and treatments.

Join this exciting career field and get proficient and certified in the administrative and clinical skills per-formed by a Medical Assistant.

Prerequisites:

• Students must possess a High School Diploma, GED or HiSET (or evaluated transcript if degree from foreign country)

• Students must attend an Orientation prior to enrollment (see dates on page 46)

• Successful completion of 40-hr course “Foundations Medical Terminology” (see page 46) or transcript of a 40-hr course from an accredited college/school
