Child Growth and Development (CHD 001)

This Mission College Early Childcare Education class is offered through a partnership between Mission College and Santa Clara Adult Education.
This 3 unit course is a study of typical and atypical child growth and development in all domains from conception through adolescence. There is an emphasis on interactions between maturational processes
and environmental factors within the family cultural context. Students observe children using investigative research methods, evaluate differences and analyze characteristics of development at various stages.

Grade Only.
NOTE: Books will be provided in class.
Child Growth and Development (001) is a Mission College class held at Santa Clara Adult Education (SCAE).
Students must complete the following two steps in order to register for the course:

FOA - Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT)

(Career Training Program and Professional Development Opportunity for current Data Center Technicians)

Fiber optic technology continues to revolutionize the telecommunication and data capabilities of a variety of industries. A fiber optic cable is a network cable designed for short and long distance, very high-performance data networking, and telecommunications. Industries that increasingly rely on this technology are Data Centers, Medical, Data Storage, Telecommunications, Networking, Broad-cast/CATV, and Defense/Government.

The demand for well trained and qualified Fiber Optic Technicians (FOT) is high. The FOT installs and assembles fiber optic cables and tests them against specs.This course combines theory with a hands-on learning lab and provides students with the skills they need to find entry-level employment as FOT. The course includes the FOA credentialing exam which is a globally recognized industry certification.

It also includes free job placement assistance for eligible students. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone in need of a short-term career training which leads to entry-level employment and offers further career pathways that can lead to project management.

Class limited to 10 students.

Prerequisite: Must be able to distinguish between different colors and possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks. Minimum 8th grade level proficiency required. All instruction and testing in English

Google Applied Digital Skills

This project and scenario-based curriculum has been developed by Google to teach students the digital skills they need to manage and operate a small business or office and to apply digital tools to manage every day tasks.

The course content fosters research-based decision-making and critical thinking skills which are adamant to succeeding today’s labor market. Students will learn to use the Google Apps to plan and promote events, plan and manage a budget, collaborate digitally in a team, manage projects, research information and evaluate the sources, and communicate effectively with others.

The course includes one session with a guest speaker from the Google team to explore strategies to find a new job using Google.

Prerequisite: Computer Literate
